Forgotten Dreams 24

THE SHAME OF IT

The shame of it, the shame of it

For all of humankind

The pain of it, the pain of it

To body and the mind

The dark of it, the hate of it

The grim, total despair

The ugliness, the cruelty

Oh! hark and have a care...

It happened - it did happen once

On our globe of sorrow

When strife was great and all but killed

Hope of a "tomorrow"

The shame of it, the hurt of it

When war torn was life rent

When peace was gone and passions dark

Unleashed, were darkly spent

The hate of it, the war it was

When man conceived the hell

And victims in this ghastliness

Pray death by enemy shell

The prisons grey, the keepers grey

When clouds obscured the sun

Great fires were lit, men placed in pits

By men - now devils become

Black soldiers command the slaughter

Victim's unknowing fate

Vile, pale faced black hearted servants

Received them, clanged the gate

Good men were slashed and beaten raw

Women were raped and hung

Children medical guinea pigs

Those who resisted, strung

The pain of it, despair of it

Human to demon turned

The prisons of concentration

Focus of evil, burned

They burned with the fires of evil

Ovens in constant use

Not to cook, nourish and care for

But human flesh abuse

................................

THE SOUL'S BETRAYAL

To live unaware of Life's Beauty

To fail to greet the birth of each Day

Neglecting our quiet contemplation

And forgetting to kneel and to pray

To live only with thoughts of the self

To only enjoy laughter and play

Seeking to satisfy self alone

And not doing a good deed each day

Forgetting give thanks for good fortune

To wonder why bad fortune is earned

Unaware of the needy and poor

Neglecting the stranger at your door

These are some of the soul's betrayals

Which tend litter our days upon Earth

These the signs of desperate living

Just measuring material worth.

To be true to the soul and spirit

Not betray our so precious life gift

Life's measure is not in material

But in subtle treasures of the heart

Be true to the soul which is within

Fed by loving kindness and by care

And delight in actions which show us

One life it is - so it's best we share

Give generously of your heart's love

Give often the hard work of your hands

Give from your mind the fullness of thought

For Peace to spread throughout all the lands.

........................................

THE WEARY ROAD

When weary souls are tired of earth

Yet still their time extends

More able should their wisdom be

Life's miseries to tend

But when the weary soul feels old

Tires of turmoil, lies, hate

Feels cheated of the pure, life thrills

It now would seem too late

They know it is the crime of earth

With its wearisome waste

Human kind and its selfish wants

Seeks joy which has no taste

With beauty fading from their sight

Diminished self esteem

Then does the soul seem grey with blight

And longs to fly and dream

But hark! there is a gleam of hope

When two souls each do share

Add loving soul's strength each to each

In kindness and in care

Help and hope and inspiration

From precious few is gain

Example of the love of two

Who choose not break in twain.

Divorce too easy in our lives

Where sex, not love is stressed

With true love and understanding

Then human life is blessed

Family gives the stability

Comfort in our own place

Conventions serve us happily

For centuries helped race

We're all tired of the broken vow

And the pains that follow

It's not just the aged that are tired

Many a heart's hollow

It's a weary road that we're on

Walking with rebel feet

When turned to natural laws again

Many more happy, people we'll meet.

..................................

THIRST QUENCHED

Drought parches the plains, woodlands and forest

Dry leaves crackle crisply in heat hurt pain

Dust clouds the air in both body and brain

Welcomed, slaking all thirst, comes blessed rain!

When the rain splatters down from sky so grey

And the birds to their shelters flutter by

Flowers lift little faces up to the sky

Glad as all trees, to see the heavens cry

Waters of life bring response from human

Water most needed to nourish the farm

Fulfils needs of beasts, saving life from harm

Good rain comes at last provides precious balm

Sparkle and twinkle the raindrops in sun

Seem glad to be there as part of life's Plan

Blending with thousands of similar drops

To refresh, relieve natural life and man.

................................

TIME SPENT

No act undone - no love unsung

No thought left unexpressed, unflung?

No secret hidden - zest to find

No search, no goal, no growing mind?

Then thou art truly best to rest

Seeking for life's refill and charge

Yea, vital fires, air, water, earth

Are there to bring thee new life birth

In new action, events and love

New thoughts can come, inspired above

New discoveries, past is dead,

Renewed youth and new life instead

Regrets can torture, hurt as pain

Life is not lived if cut in twain

So pity those who're yet not free

To live their lives, and truly be

The circle smoothly takes its turn

By spiral thus is wisdom earned

Know advancement is yet ahead

In future life - no soul is dead

Much life to live - much love to feel

Thoughts sublime to create anew

Truths to learn and in wisdom grow

Full limitless the future so!

Try not to waste your life or time

Spend life well and give your life free

Render what attention you can

To those who are wiser than thee!

So act again! re-act to none

Expand your thoughts, free, wide and true

Search high and low and find new trust

Find joy e'er you again be dust!

.......................

TO LOST HONOUR

And from the twilight sea

A host of pale and tremulous glories rose,

And wafted gently on, to me

Yet vanished, erst I clear could see.

What magic mists foretell!

What magical fantasies the soul enshrines!

Leading us all as by a spell

To capture wit and will with Love!

Oh, would I yearn for thee,

My knight in subtle vapour's haze so to shroud

Brilliance of armour, not of cloud

But of harsh metal, bright and hard.

Knights fade in twilight now,

Fair damsels weep at a broken wedding vow

Their hearts still yearn for good and true

Fine, valiant Knights, just like you!

..................................

TROPICS

Freely upon a moonlight night I wander

Alone but for the tropic's cloak of mystery

Enjoying sound from foam of the warm wavelets

Wriggling my toes in unfamiliar freedom free

Barefoot, with the sea shore's sands caressing me.

Moon castes her silvery path upon the waters

Observing from palm fringed tropic sands this evening

I wonder how this illusion seems to be

That moon directs its silvery pathway just to me

My senses swoon with sights, scents and tropic sea

Free this night, lone, communing with my Maker

Savouring each moment of the heavy scented night

Moved anew to wonderment of life, I sigh

My soul seems as silver moonlight on the waters

Hearing night birds' call and curlews' weird cry.

.....................................

TROUBLED RELATIONSHIP

May light be stronger than darkness

May love be stronger than hate

May kindness strengthen our heart strings

May ours be a joyful fate

May smooth peace overcome turmoil

May harmony soothe discord

May understanding and wisdom

Bring our ultimate accord
